Explore the Telok Ayer & Chinatown heritage walking trail - an easy, enjoyable, self-guided walking tour perfect for both visitors and locals who want to learn more about Singapore’s early days.

This trail takes you through the neighborhoods where some of Singapore’s first immigrants settled. Chinese, Indian, and Muslim communities lived and worked alongside one another here, and their traditions, trades, and daily lives helped shape the area into the cultural hub it is today. As you wander past centuries-old temples, mosques, clan houses, and shophouses, you’ll get a glimpse into how these diverse communities navigated a new land and helped form the multicultural spirit Singapore is known for.

Pass by some of the area’s most iconic and surprising spots, including Singapore’s oldest Hokkien temple, a mural that once sparked public debate, and shophouses that were formerly opium dens, among many other hidden stories waiting to be discovered.

A simple walk with a rich history, perfect for seeing Telok Ayer and Chinatown in a whole new light.
